Periodic vibrations brand new 18 GS

Hi all,
I bought a brand new 18 GS with all equipment except alarm. I have some kund of periodic vibrations. It's been the same from the start and up to now (100 miles). The vibrations starts around 70 mph and is very obvious and also annoying. I tested up to 85 mph and it's the same.

I will try to describe it:
- it vibrates at 5 -10 Hz for around 1 second and then i disappears for around 2 sec. Then it starts all over again.
- I can feel it but much less annoying in a range around half...

1200GS v 850GSA?

OK, the new 1250 got me sniffing around so I'll be demo'ing a F850GSA this Saturday.

Binge watching YouTube and reading leads me to believe the 850GS and 850GSA are essentially the same bike with same motor and same suspension. One has a bigger gas tank (big whoop), racks and engine guards.

Both 850GS and 850GSA are expensive (to me). OT, but me thinks the KTM 790 will blow these two new baby GS bikes off the map due to price point alone.

So here's the question, why would you want to...

Cross Country CRF230L

Hard to believe mid-March is upon us! This Tuesday, I will leave New York to relocate to Utah for a few months. Looking to head south, visit a few friends along the coast of South Carolina before making path the through Savanah, into Florida, and then westward along the gulf, and into Texas.
Being a minimalist by nature, the physical act of loading up the bike and heading out is not as daunting as the emotional aspect--letting go of almost everything that does not fit in a backpack, and...

990 Battery replacement choice

I'll be changing out my battery soon and have a choice between a Yuasa YTZ14S or a Tusk TTZ14S.
The Yuasa is $218 and Tusk is $65.
Both are rated at the same capacity, but the price differential is enormous (+335%)
Does anyone have experience with the longevity and reliability of a Tusk?

1986 XT 600 Raptor carb conversion, pics tonight.

I just got the dual carb setup off a 2001 raptor 660 and its soaking in the parts cleaner at work. I will put it straight on the bike when i get home and take a couple pics and let who is interested know how and if it runs with this set up. It will definatley have to be re-jetted but ill see if it starts like this. The xt jets might even fit in the raptor carb....both yamaha jets.

There are three vacuum/air intakes on the carb, two to lift the throttle body, i know because they lift when...

Desert trip, 6-16th June 2019

Hi All,

I am planning a desert trip for this June (6th- 16th) and welcome any advice or even company for all or portions of the trip. Never been to the area, and my only research so far has been reading old threads on this forum, so all advice is welcome and no advice is considered to basic.

I will be travelling on a loaded up ktm 690e with rally raid tanks and carrying an additional 20 litres fuel (total of approx 45 total), when required.

My plan at the...

IF ONLY?

You can not rewind time but reminiscing and wondering what might have been though impractical is at least thought provoking.
I got to thinking today about the TRIUMPH BANDIT 350, this along with some other Triumph models that never saw the marketplace i feel could have added greatly to the Triumph name.
A DOHC twin in the start of the 1970s could have filled a gap to make ground on the Japanese and Italian imports the ageing Trophy 250 and B25 baracuda never could. The bandit along with...

Shorty Clutch Lever….

I wanted to look into getting a shorty clutch lever for my 2017 GSA. The inter webs show anything from $15 - $250 in every color in the spectrum.

Does anyone recommend something specific for Beemers? I’m okay with paying extra (cry once) but I would want a pretty good review to back it up. Preparing for the NMBDR in September so slowly adding the last few farkles over the next few months.....

Thanks for the help....

’15 1290 SA-T: No gear indicator and no CC

Last week I noticed the cruise control stopped working for a ride...it just wouldn't engage. The following ride no problems. This week the bike wouldn't turn the engine, fuses were fine, battery is charged. I then noticed that the gear indicator was not showing anything - not the usual 'N' when booting up. The bike was in nuetral but not until I grabbed the clutch would the engine turn. Whilst riding the cruise control will not engage and the bike will not report which gear I am in. This...

Africa Twin – Would you do it again

Soooo my bike just got stolen.

I don’t want to get into the details in this thread.

Question is do I replace it with another AT. Would you, why?

I love the bike, I know there are folks out there who don’t care for it and that’s fine.

The bike would be used for BDR type riding. I could go smaller but I live in a really big state where I may have to ride 300 miles to get to dirt. I also commute 400 miles on it a couple times a month. Thankfully there is a lot of dirt I can ride along that...

Which year camhead GS to buy?

I will soon be looking for a new to me R1200GS. I'm wondering what the general consensus is regarding which years to consider. What are the changes between each year's model? My budget will be about $10k or less and mileage 30k miles or less. I'm thinking between 2009 and 2013. What considerations should I be looking at? Ideally I'd like top loading aluminum boxes as well.
Impressions? Preferences? General likes and dislikes? I've been riding R1150GS's for the last 90k miles.

Windscreen solution for tall people. Share yours

This 1190 S I bought gas some sort of taller screen from acerbis. The buffeting from it sucks, and I’m in the middle of a long trip. When I get home, that piece of junk is going in the garbage. Buffeting, the v cuts on the sides cause wind to nail my shoulders pretty damn hard too.

I’ll be looking for a better solution. If you’ve found good winndscreens, tell me about it.
