Club/Rec rego help

I'm looking at putting the it in an event in Victoria in a months time bit it needs some for of rego. Now i'm from NSW so i think the options for me are a club rego in NSW or a club/rec/red plate rego in Vic. I have no experience in either of these but from my inquiries about the Victorian one i need to have a Victorian licence and get a roadworthy from Victoria too which may be a stretch. Another option is NSW club rego it think, would i be able to ride it in a Victorian event with this?...

Do you leave your bike at the airport ever?

Do you leave your bike at the airport ever?

I am flying to Mexico for three days and I am planning to ride my bike to the airport. Parking is free at the Miami International Airport. I have a 2011 BMW R1200GSA.

Question: Do you leave your bike at the airport ever? How safe is it? Do criminals steal bikes from airports?

Very slight oil leak after installing MAM covers

Okay been dealing with this issue for the last three days. '17.5 R1200GS. After installing the MAM covers I am getting a very slight leak of oil at the bottom of head. More like a droplet that when I leave a paper towel underneath the head for 5 minutes I get this:
View attachment 1563052

It measures about 5mm however it may be smaller because the paper towel absorbs it and spreads out. I removed the X-head cover three times. The first time I tightened the T50 bolt to 8 nm. Then 7 nm on...

Tapping trees, boiling sap, making syrup.

Anyone else into this venture? We're going to try it for the first time this year. Got about 15 easily accessible maple trees on our property. We're going to start off with 5 trees. See where it leads. Still need the temps to warm up a little. -2º this morning. Today's high is in the teens. My understanding is you want temps below freezing at night, and above freezing in the days. Tap the trees on the south side. Anticipate roughly one gallon a day per tree. Forty gallons of sap, for one...

Honda CB500F, decent deal?

I’m in the process of buying a 2018 model with ABS. They have it marked down to $4999 but after all the “fees”, taxes, and new tag, it’s coming out to $6700. The fees came out to $499 freight, $299 handling, and I think a $299 dealer fee, plus some other minor junk. The freight is a little suspect as Honda’s destination charge is $380, so I suppose I could force them down $100 there. It just seems like the out the door price is higher then I would think it would be. That being said, the...

Sherco linkage

Sherco people: what's your opinion on the need for a linkage guard? I could destroy a GG linkage in a season without one, but the Sherco linkage seems to be possibly tucked a little more out of the way (although I find this somewhat dubious given the design looks like a carbon copy of the GG).

Powder coating subframe

A few of the parts on my bike were looking tired after using it over winter for a few year, subframe paint coming off and the pannier racks, crashbars, centre&side stand etc all having some marks or rust appearing.

Anyway, last night I pulled some of the parts off of the bike... damn those bloody rear peg mount bolts are a pain to get it out. Took me 40mins just removing one that was seized good and proper. The impact driver bit snapped off in it too!

My plan is to paint the subby and...

Right cylinder blue smoke on an R80/7. Oh dear…

So I was following my dad around on his '78 R80/7 fresh out of winter storage and I noticed some blue smoke when the engine started warming up. Damn, the PO said the heads had been totally redone, including new valve seats and guides and new piston rings among other things.

It's especially noticeable when accelerating or standing still and a stoplight and it's predominantly coming from the right cylinder. It stopped a few times over the course of the ride, but then reappeared later again....

NEW 2017 1290 SA-R

No owners yet as of this writing but the bike is definitely on it's way. Who's interested? New features for the bike I spotted in Intermot reviews are in bold.

The R gets a rather distinctive new face. At its core is an aluminium carrier for the new LED lights, which also acts as a heat sink. Integrated into the lower part of the headlights are LED cornering lights which are controlled by the MSC lean angle sensor. The saddle is a one-piece design and has an all new...

Unrestored Bikes – I’d like to See Them!

I've always really liked the look of unrestored old bikes. Bikes that have been ridden far and wide, well maintained mechanically but with little regard for the cosmetics. Bikes with a well-worn patina that look as though they have a story to tell, one that might be worth listening to.

I'm not knocking it but the whole restoration ethic just doesn't do it for me - nobody buys an antique piece of furniture and then spends time and money making it look brand new.

So, post pictures if...

Half Cover vs Small Tarp to protect Bike & Gear

An earlier thread, "What do you do with your gear in camp", got me looking at half covers. This ledd to looking at tarps as another approach.
Tarps would require a little more to secure them than the covers,
but would offer more flexibility when stashing gear on the bike before covering it with the tarp.

Any using a tarp to cover bike and gear when camping?
Any thougths based on experience one way or the other.

Here's a link to a cover that gets great reviews on Anazon and only costs $30...

2016 KTM 250 XCF-W Street Legal – Massachusetts

Thinking of selling my 2016 250 XCF-W with 88 hours/1600 miles, looking for $5000. I bought this bike new in 2016 and have regularly maintained since then, it's been ridden mostly on single track/dual sport rides, and never raced. It has the typical add on's like Cycra bark busters, Enduro Engineering skid plate, Una Biker radiator guards, as well as an unlocked ECU and a KTM MAP switch on the handlebars. It will not come with the steering dampener that's on it in the pictures. I put a fresh...

Anyone have experience removing gaskets with Loctite Chisel 79040, aka Methylene Chloride?

I'm about to have to remove a case gasket on my DR650 but apparently it will take the better part of an afternoon using any other method or chem.

https://www.emisupply.com/catalog/l...er-24oz-18oz-aerosol-p-3275.html#.XG8hbEZME0M

This chemical is supposed to foam to keep it from spreading everywhere, but the chemical is also marketed as a paint stripper. I'm guessing I should protect the engine case too, any advice on doing that? This stuff will...

Gas Gas 225 Regrets

Hi to all from UK.
I’ll keep this short. (Well , short for me!)
I bought a GG225 last year as good platform on which to develop and tune a bike down to something with soft-response - since I am an ex-musician, now in quite poor health. Emphycemia , Arrhythmic , COPD stg4 - all the usual stuff you get from smoking and a rock ‘n roll lifestyle ,basically. I got a bike to be able to get out in the fresh air , and do something - rather than sit around waiting for the inevitable stroke or...

’78 Honda CB750 Sidecar Mount Questions

Hello all,

Picked up a Honda CB750 with the idea of mounting a sidecar.
Got the sidecar; some made in India Rocket looking clone.
Happy with the body and subframe; going to need some work but they'll do.
Questionable on the universal mounting kit that came with it.
So please look at the attached pictures.

First question is do these mounting locations look good?
They're about as far up or down and front or rear that I can get.

Second question is does this actual mounting hardware look...
