Cootz invades Oz & NZ (2 March thru 28 March)

I've talked about it a few places in the Ozsylum but I thought maybe it would be better to start a thread.

I am planning to come over next February or so and will be there for a month to celebrate my 40th birthday. Plans are to fly to Auckland or Melbourne first, somewhat dependent on weather and ticket prices. In NZ I'll be stealing @MrKiwi's Transalp and in Oz I'll be stealing @nevgriff64's XTZ750. Then I'd like to go ride around. Ideally I can get...

Baja Adventure Riders

So growing up in So Cal, trips to Baja were a pretty regular thing. Load up the car with food, surfboards and friends and head south. It was always easy to find a place to camp, buy cheap beer and have a great time.

As life got more complicated the trips to Baja became fewer and fewer. And then at the end of last year I was invited on an epic big bike journey of 5 days in Baja. Epic in that it started with 10 riders and ended with 2. As the caretaker at Horsepower Ranch told us on the...

COBDR – August 2019, Big Bikes

I am planning to do the Colorado BDR in August 2019. Starting the broadcast early in hopes of getting a few other big bike riders to join me.

My trip this year (2018) was the MABDR, which I rode in May.

Looking for people with at least a little offroad experience that can handle a 20-50mph offroad pace...depending on terrain.

I'll most likely camp half of the trip and stay in hotels half of the time, alternating days of camping and hotel stay. However, I'm open to doing hotels every...

690 Enduro R headshake

A couple of weeks back I took the plunge and got back into riding after about 10 years without a bike, bought a 2017 690 Enduro R demo from my local dealer in Rutherford. Great bike, plenty of power, lots of fun to ride. I noticed some head shake of varying degrees at around 100 kph, the salesman suggested it may be coming from the tyres, the bike was a demo that had Dunlop 606's installed on front and rear. I decided that I could live with it until the tyres were due for a change out. I...

Big Brother is watching you in the Park

On Saturday last I was riding the mighty gen1 KLR with a couple other bikes on Hidden Valley Rd. east of Teakettle Junction in Death Valley when we bumped into a couple park workers. They were downloading from a small plastic box all data for the last three months. The device is left by rocks near the road side and records when a vehicle goes by with date and time. They told us they have them all over the park including the back country roads.

So the next time you are doing a midnight ride...

KTM skidplate

I’ve heard the factory KTM skitplate is a pain in the ass to remove for oil changes. Has this been yalls experience? If so what plate would you recommend for my 1090r?

Ducati Hypermotard SP (939)

I have been wanting one of these bikes since the 821 model hit the streets. But I could not rationalize the high price tag to myself for a bike that appeared on the surface to be unpractical for mile munching and general rider comfort. So I continued to look at the SP every time I was in a Ducati store and would sit on it for long periods of time. Continued to read and watch the reviews but--Jeezus--that bike sure cost A LOT!!! Maybe next year.........

A friend of mine from Southern...

KTM Naming Convention Help: EXC, SF, SX, SXC, SMC, MXC, R …?

As I search Craigslist, I'm totally confused. Which ones are dual sport?

EXC, XCW, SF, SX, SXC, SMC, SMR, MXC, R, Enduro, Super Enduro, Duke, Super Duke ...?

Why are the engines referred to as LC4 and LC8?

Is there an easy way to understand this multidimensional grid:

Model designation x Engine type/size x Street legality x Model Years available

Thanks!

getting new 1090R and question

most likely as I somehow don't like 790 appearance and size.
Question is do I need to uncork 1090 like I had to with my 500 exc
or it's mostly race ready out of the box more or less?
I mean removing cat, SAS, O2 sensors delete etc.

triumph explorer to V-strom

So to keep it short.
I was planning to go from my explorer to a Bonneville T120, in searching for something lighter and more manageble when riding two-up.
Yesterday i sat (no ability to ride one/ no demo's anywhere i know of) on a V-strom 1000 and even with a pilion it feels much lighter than my Triumph Explorer.

Is the V-strom far away from my Explorer on ride-quality?
Next bike needs to be lighter than my explorer and good two-up.
Africa twin is of the list, to high.

V-strom seems...

2003 DR 790 CC

I have owned this bike for 7 or 8 years now, basically since it was brand new. Guy before me was older and never used it.
Bike has been offroad in a sandpit for all of 10 minutes, other than that, pure street.
You wont find a bike better taken care of or maintained than this, im very anal with that.
Too many extras to list, has 790CC Big bore kit with Stage 2 cam (other small items installed too like new rockers, valve seals etc), professionally installed
New Pirelli tires
Oil changed every...

Suzuki DRZ Dirtbagz in Pa

The garage purge continues. Bought these a good bit ago for my long gone DRZ. Came off of here from another Iinmate. Won’t be needing these in the next decade. In very good condition. One “Rub” on one of the silver pads. All zippers good. Looks like low time use.
These are the smaller of the two sizes he offered. Scout? Thinking for the S too but no idea if E model different. I had an E with an S subframe.
165 shipped. Paypal f and f or add 3%. Cheers

Kaoko Throttle Lock/Barkbusters F800GS

Checking to see if anyone might have either one of these laying around that they bought and ended up not liking/using/trading the bike in. Figured I'd check here first before I start looking for new parts. Noticed a few of these pop up lately but none that appear to fit an F800GS, unfortunately.

Looking for a couple of things:

1. Kaoko Throttle lock that would work on a 2017 BMW F800GS (either one that fits stock handguards with steel backbone or one that fits Barkbuster applications will...
