Ok, I’m stumped. Ignition/starting problem on 1150

This is going to be a long post, but given how well so many of you know oilheads I bet you'll see what I'm missing. I'm going to give the long sequence of events.

1. The bike is a 2000 R1150GS I bought in August. 48k miles if it matters. It ran and rode well, although a bit cold-blooded, i.e. it needed the fast idle for a few minutes. Nevertheless, I looked at the wire housing for the HES and noticed it was the original, so I ordered a re-wired one from GS Addict with plans to replace it...

HONDA CRF250 RALLY

So, I know this prototype has been covered here a couple of times before, but if it were to go into production and by good fortune made available here for sale, who would be interested in buying. If you would not buy one, why not and what do you think Honda would need to change so you would ?

New BMW Rallye Jacket for 2018

Did anyone else see the new Rally Jacket at the IMS Show this season? I saw it at the Cleveland Show and was impressed by the new design. I couldn't try it on because it was too small but after owning a RP2 for over 10 years and have been very happy with it.., I will probably get the new one.

The new feature I liked the best was that if you are riding without the waterproof liner under the outer layer and suddenly need it, It will fit over the jacket too! This concept is brill !! Why...

Trials bike title in Az

I’m looking at getting a ‘99 Montesa and the current owner does not have a title for it. With most of The riding in Az being public land I’d like to have what I need to be legal.

What information do I need to get with the bike, and how much of an uphill battle is it here in Az? I didn’t ask the owner if he has an MSO, but I’m pretty sure he doesn’t. I did a search on here and google, but nothing complete and reliable came up. Current owner said one of the hassles is that trials bikes have...

Sidecar Accidents – post ’em here

We don't hear about sidecar accidents too often, thankfully, but it seems a useful idea to have a single thread where we can discuss accidents and how to avoid them. I'm sure some of you will want to turn this into a tutorial on driving a sidecar outfit (apologies to David L. Hough who already wrote the book on that), but I'm hoping more for examples of real-life accidents--what happened, what went wrong, avoidable or not, steps that were taken or could have been taken to mitigate injury...

Long vs Short jacket for dirtbike and adv

I ride both ADV touring and dirtbike ohv tails. I am looking at a couple of jackets the Olympia Dakar 2 and the Olympia Airglide 5. The big difference is that the Dakar has a longer cut in more of a "dual sport" style and the Airglide is a "Street" cut.

The longer style seems like it would get in the way when you are in attack on a dirt bike but its...

Setup your rugged Android for all things GPS ?

Gauging interest- I've wondered if there was a market for setting up rugged/waterproof smartphones with ALL your old gpx tracks, waypoints, etc for a while, so I thought this was a good place to ask.

Plan a:
Send me a rugged/waterproof smartphone along with your tracks/waypoints/stuff via sdcard/thumbdrive/gmail/, and I mail it back to you, ready to go.

Plan b
Hmm, not sure yet. I'm trying to make this is plug-n-play as possible.

A dual-core (minimum, please) high...

Hello from Austria

Hi Guys

recently noticed that there is a section to introduce oneself, which I´d like to do now. I´m from Vienna / Austria and I´m a experienced rider. However, I´d like to share and learn as I know there is always room for improvement. Currently I´m owning very different bikes - my main ride is a 2014 Triumph Tiger Explorer (which replaced a T709 i owned nearly two decades), a Honda DN-01 (i like exotic bikes :-) ) and a RE Himalayan which i use mostly in the dirt. My fiancée thinks I´ve a...

Vintage/Classic Enduro, Dual Sport and scrambler Bikes

I want to see your old street legal enduro, dual sport and scrambler bikes, and if you have them, pics out exploring on them. Have a hankering for exploring the dirt roads, trails and little mountain towns on a classic/vintage bike again. Had a yamaha DT 125 growing up and a Suzuki TS 185 a few years ago. Getting that bug again. Need some inspiration on a cold, windy lazy day!

2011 twin cam cam chain tensioner

I know another thread about cam chain tensioners!
I have read numerous threads on here and elsewhere about engine rattle noises potentially caused by faulty cam chain tensioners and am seeking feedback from anyone who has changed a tensioner (only on a 1200 motor)

I have a 1200 twin cam with 160000 kms on the motor which makes a loud persistent rattling noise on start up if it hasn't been run for an extended period of time (eg 4 months in storage) - this noise can take 15 to 20 mins of...

Always trying for the perfect bike?

I am always trying to get the perfect bike for doing it all. Built up an '04 DL650 with good suspension (GS650 Dakar front) upgraded rear. Very durable fun to ride but still too heavy for anything serious off road. Next was a 2012 NC700X. Probably the most tractable motor out there with improved suspension travel to counter the low ground clearance it is really fun to ride but with my skill level and declining strength it's still too heavy off road. Current one is a morphed 2014 CB500X with...

2018 KTM 1290 Super Adventure lithium battery

I just put a lithium battery in my new KTM SAS to replace the heavier conventional battery. I went from 8.6 lbs to just 3 lbs and I went from 230 CCA to 360 CCA. I lost 5.5 lbs and gained 130 CCA. That is a win win.

That is a lot of weight high up in the motorcycle and changes how the bike handles. I did not ride the bike after I changed the battery and I don't have enough miles on the bike to really give a clear idea of how much it changed the bike's manners. I can tell you that I changed...

2019 R1250GSA: MSRP vs. Invoice vs. True Price

Hello fellow riders,

Im in the market for new 1250GSA. I never bought new bike from dealer before. Trying to find more info about how to negotiate price at BMW dealer and how to get the best deal possible.

1250GSA HP model has MSRP of $24,590.00. Asked dealer for invoice and been told there is none.
What I see is what I pay.

I'm located in SF Bay Area and not sure if location makes a difference on the bike price.

I think if dealer would agree on $24000 ($590 less then MSRP) + throw free...

Vancouver Adv Group Rides 2018

Hi All,

It'd be interesting to put a face to names from the forums. Does anyone organize a group ride or meet-up for Vancouverites / GVRD folks sometime during the peak riding season? (Please don't tell me Squamish's southern Starbucks. I see that 2x per week going to see my kids, and not on the bike...)

Because I'm a newbie, I think a ride to somewhere like Harrison along 7 would be pretty nice, and collect most of the GVRD and Valley. I don't know. Thoughts?

I think one meet up...

Engine Swap Qld Capacity Increase

Question for the more experienced or if any one may know ?

What's the legalities of swapping an engine on a currently qld registered bike ?

Eg CRF250 Engine Out Crf450 Engine in. or
KTM525 Engine Out KTM640 Engine in ?

Is there a limit on how much you can increase the capacity before it needs a mod plate ?

2012 F800GS pulling right

Hi Guys,

I have having issue with my 2012 F800GS, the bike triple clamp/handlebar is pulling right slightly while on the move. Things I have done so far but did not solve the issue:

  • Replace steering cone bearing
  • Replace the bush below the riser with proper torque
  • Check if the fork and triple clamps are in correct order
  • Check if handlebar are in correct order
  • Re-lace front rims
  • Front wheel balancing done
The above mention has been done but yet still...

Ducati MultiStrada 1200

Just spoke to my local dealer and it looks like it is happening. Uses the current 1100 motor. We will see it at Milan in November. Got to admit, after seeing the Monster 696 recently, and leaving the showroom well impressed with Ducati quality, this along with the new Yam S10 are on my short list.
If anyone has gossip or photo's, feel free to add to the conjecture.
